Your body parts are different, and so, might have different needs. There are body parts naturally more sensitive, and because of that can be at a higher risk of developing skin irritation if not using the right products.

Moreover, make sure you know how to shave each individual area for the best results:

For legs, gently shave from the ankles up
For armpits, shave in all directions — downward, sideways, and upward as needed
For the bikini area, first, shave in the direction of the hair growth; then reapply shaving cream and go against the grain for a closer shave.

Choose cartridge razors or safety razors?

You may have read that "cartridge razors cause ingrown hairs", "cartridge razors are too expensive to use", "safety razors are prone to cuts"...
How do I decide between a cartridge razor and a safety razor?
Feelings from THURLADY(Daisy): Firstly, there are many causes of cuts and irritation; the quality of the razor, the angular structure of the blade, the experience of using it, the sensitivity of the skin, the area of use, the hardness of the hair, and so on will all affect these issues. Both cartridge razors and safety razors have their advantages:
Cartridge razors are better for large areas such as arms and legs because it takes less time to remove your leg hair, and cartridge razors are preferred for traveling; the downside is that they cost more. Safety razors are better for accurate hair treatments and are good for removing hair from small areas such as the face and underarms. A safety razor will remove stubble much better than a cartridge razor and is more economical and environmentally friendly, the downside is that it will take more time to shave each time (and you will need to use extra gel). All in all, it's not a difficult choice. If you enjoy a fine shaving experience and like to spend more time on manual shaving, I would recommend you to go for a safety razor; if you enjoy efficient shaving and want to save more time on shaving, I would recommend you to go for a cartridge razor as it is really convenient!

Why aren’t my razor blades working? Should I change them?

Shaving with a sharp razor blade protects your skin from nicks, razor burns, and bumps. When the razor starts feeling rough on your skin or pulls at your body hair, you know it’s time to change your blades!

Blades have their lifetime, and to maintain that perfect shave you need to replace them from time to time. As soon as you start feeling the dullness of your blade, meaning your blades start to pull on your hair, they feel rough, and you notice more and more irritation – it’s time to replace it. There is also a cheat sheet on how often you should replace them, and that depends on how often you are shaving:

If you shave… - Consider changing your blades
Daily - Every 1 to 2 weeks
Every other day - Every 2 to 3 weeks
Twice a week - Every 4 to 6 weeks

How long does one double edge safety razor blade last?

Each side of blades can give on 3 to 5 or more smooth shaves, which means you can enjoy about 10 total shaves per blade. But this may vary depending on: 1.how tough and thick your hair is; 2.how often you use the razor & on which areas of the body. When you run out of blades, you can simply buy them separately at the THURLADY store, which is very convenient and saves you money!

Is there a way to make razor blades last longer?

Your hair texture and shaving frequency impact the longevity of your razor blade, but proper care can help keep your blades fresh and sharp for longer.

Make sure skin is well-hydrated. Wet hair can be shaved off more easily and with less friction than when shaving than dry hair. More friction dulls down the blade quicker.

Keep shaving gel residue and cut hairs from drying in between your razor blades and reducing their effectiveness by rinsing off your razor after each stroke. Likewise, clean off your razor and let it dry thoroughly after you finish shaving.

I have really sensitive skin, what is the best product to use?

If you have sensitive skin, your risk of developing razor burn, rash, and irritation is higher, so how you shave and the tools you use matter.

Using the right blade will safeguard your skin and optimize your shaving results. You can find a razor blade that’s dermatologist-tested for sensitive skin, and consider using a razor with five blades for a closer shave with less irritation. Five blades on a razor are spaced closer together, which prevents the skin from bulging up in between the blades for a more comfortable shave on sensitive skin. Also, more razor blades typically cut the hairs at the surface in a single pass which can result in fewer strokes, limiting chances of skin irritation.

My skin gets really irritated after shaving, what to do?

Shaving correctly helps with keeping your skin free from irritation. Keep in mind that the right shaving method will depend on where you’re shaving. Learn more about how to shave your legs, armpits, arms, face/eyebrows, or your bikini area with these practices below:

Hydrate your skin via a warm bath or shower for a few minutes before you shave.
Exfoliation can also help prepare your skin for shaving by removing any dead skin cells.
Use shaving gel to preserve moisture and help your razor blade glide more easily.
Apply moisturizer, preferably alcohol-free, after you shave to help keep skin hydrated.
And, always use a sharp, clean razor blade. Using a dull blade increases your chances of nicks, razor burn, ingrown hairs, and irritated skin.

Safety razor not working after blade installed?

If you find that your safety razor is not able to remove hair properly after installing the blades, it is usually because there was some error in the blade installation. The safety razor head consists of a two-part structure, the blade is sandwiched between them. Please check that the lower cover of the safety razor head is installed correctly. If you have questions about this, you can read the shaving guide in the item box first. Or you can contact our customer service.
